Welcome to the world of embroidery!
Get ready to stitch your heart out!
Embroidery is a beautiful and relaxing fiber craft that allows you to create stunning designs on fabric using needle and thread. If you've always wanted to learn how to embroider but didn't know where to start, you've come to the right place!
I tried embroidery for the first time with these embroidery kits by The Urbann Nest. They have everything needed to recreate an embroidery project. I did need to access a few YouTube videos along my way (see below!) but it was very quick and easy to pick up!
What supplies are included in my kit?
Your kit includes:
- 5 in. wooden embroidery hoop
- Tracing pen
- White fabric and backing fabric
- Full DMC floss skeins
- Embroidery needle
- Helpful tips
- Color & stitch guide
- Paper copy of pattern
What are the basic steps to creating an embroidery piece?
- Trace the pattern provided onto your fabric using your special new tracing pen
- Secure the fabric into the embroidery hoop. This is what holds your fabric taught so that you can embroider easily.
- Pick your first color of "floss" fiber by following the instructions. For example, start with green then embroider all the areas that use that color green before moving onto the next color. To embroider, you tie a knot at one end of your floss and knot the needle onto the other end...then get started.
- This kit includes pictures and basic instructions for several embroidery stitches. I needed to watch a quick YouTube video on these stitches to see them in action before beginning.
- Add backing fabric.
- Clean up backing fabric
- That's it!
Learning the basic stitches
There are several basic embroidery stitches that you'll learn with either project you pick. These include the backstitch, satin stitch, and French knot. Don't worry if these stitches sound intimidating at first - with practice, you'll soon get the hang of them!
There's a picture and basic instructions for each stitch included in your kit. However... I'm much more a visual learner! I accessed ONE Youtube video and I was on my way embroidering! Here's the YouTube video I used...
A new hobby to relax with...
Embroidery, like any other skill, requires practice. Don't be discouraged if your first few projects don't turn out exactly as you imagined. The more you practice, the better you'll become. Remember, embroidery is all about creativity and self-expression, so don't be afraid to experiment and have fun with it!
Embroidery is a relaxing and rewarding hobby that allows you to create beautiful pieces of art with just a needle and thread. So why not give it a try? Who knows, you might just discover a new passion!
